Responsible Travel
Our trips are built on respect - for the land, the waters, and the communities who have called this region home for centuries. The Kalunga people have preserved their traditions and a beautiful relationship with this land for over 300 years, and we are privileged to learn from their example of sustainable living. We support community-led tourism development through thoughtful practices: keeping our groups small (maximum 12 people) to minimize impact, working exclusively with local guides, ensuring fair compensation that directly benefits the community, using family-owned accommodations, and supporting the preservation of Kalunga cultural heritage. Our commitment extends to every aspect of the journey, from enjoying traditional meals made with locally-sourced, organic ingredients to strictly following Leave No Trace principles on all trails, ensuring that our presence helps rather than hinders the local communities and landscape.

Straight Talk
This journey is ideal for adventurous folks who are comfortable hiking 2-9 miles daily with a daypack, and value adventure and authentic travel over a more luxurious “vacation.” While you will be very well fed and will have all your needs well taken care of, the accommodations on this trip are more on the simpler side. In addition, much of the roads we will take to get to the hikes are bumpy, long, and unpaved (We call this the Brazilian massage!) While we tend to attract travelers in their 20s and 30s who are often more comfortable with this style of travel, we welcome anyone who's up for simple living conditions and is open to a true, culturally immersive experience. The most important thing is bringing an open mind, sunscreen, and an adventurous spirit!
Packing List
Our team will be responsible for sleeping sleeping set ups, hiking poles, most meals and water, basic snacks, and first aid supplies. You will need to bring the following:
Main backpack (40-70L) for all your belongings
Day backpack (25-30L) to take with you on day hikes
Clothes, shoes, swimwear
Natural, biodegradable insect repellent and sunscreen
Passport and travel documents
Cash in Brazilian Reais and credit card
Personal medications and prescriptions
Toiletries (biodegradable soap, toothpaste, etc.)
Quick-dry travel towel
Water bottle (1-2, at least 1L capacity each)
Headlamp with extra batteries
Brazilian outlet adapter, charging cables, power bank
Energy bars/personal snacks that you might want on trails (This trip covers food and snacks, but Brazil’s snack game leaves much to be desired compared to what you can find at your local Whole Foods!
We recommend bringing a water bottle with a filter to err on the side of caution, even though we drink filtered water + water from natural springs on trip. Our favorite is the “Everywhere filter” From Epic Water Filters: https://www.amazon.com/Epic-Water-Dishwasher-Filtered-Impurities/dp/B08WTMBK4R?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1
